Minced Steak Cottage Pie

Buttery mashed potato and steak mince combine for the ultimate cottage pie. A homemade classic with hearty flavours. Simple beef cottage pie lifted up with flavourful herbs and stock.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 small onion (chopped finely)
  • 400g Minced Steak
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 20g plain flour
  • 150ml beef stock
  • 1 tbsp parsley (chopped)
  • pinch of marjoram or lovage
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 450g potatoes (cooked and mashed with butter)
  • salt and pepper

METHOD

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/ Fan160°C/Gas 4.
  2. In a heavy-based ovenproof casserole pan, heat the oil and brown the onion and meat, stir in the flour and cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Add the stock and simmer for a further 2 minutes. Add the parsley, marjoram or lovage and Worcestershire sauce. Season and cover with the mashed potatoes, marking the surface with a fork.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes until the potatoes are nicely browned on top.
  5. Serve with glazed carrots and baby turnips.
